If you want to market eggs from your laying hen farm, you may have to register it.
Upon registration, your farm will be assigned an identification number.

Since 01.01.2004, only eggs from a laying hen house for which a registration number (producer code) has been issued and which are marked with this corresponding producer code may be placed on the market (exception: direct marketing).
The following are subject to registration

• businesses that keep 350 or more laying hens or

• businesses that keep fewer than 350 hens but market their eggs subject to mandatory labeling.
  

If fewer than 350 hens are kept and the eggs are sold unmarked and unsorted directly to the end consumer on the farm or at the door (direct marketing), there is no obligation to register.

Eggs that are sold at the weekly market are subject to compulsory marking. The farm must therefore be registered.

• Fully completed and signed application form
• Site plan showing the location of the individual barns on the farm (required for free-range and organic systems)

• Proof of compliance with the requirements for the respective husbandry system by confirmation from the responsible veterinary and food inspection office and/or the organic inspection body

• In the case of organic production and free-range systems: compliance with the requirements for the laying hens' freedom of movement

• Chicken keeping is confirmed by the responsible veterinary and food monitoring office.
• Registration with the animal health insurance fund and indication of the registration/HIT number.

• In the case of organic production, registration is confirmed by an organic inspection body.
• In the case of organic production and free-range farming: compliance with the requirements for outdoor access for laying hens.

The amount of the fee depends on the time required.

• Registration and issue of an identification number by the authority

Important The eggs may only be marketed after registration. It is strongly recommended that registration is completed before the laying hens are purchased.

You must apply for the registration number before you start keeping laying hens.
