Are you a late repatriate and would like to have your vocational qualification recognised? Find out more here.
As a late repatriate you are entitled to a recognition procedure for your educational qualifications. This involves checking whether your qualification is comparable with a German qualification.
You can have both school and university qualifications and vocational qualifications recognised.
You can have your vocational qualification compared with any profession that exists or no longer exists in Germany.
As a rule, your professional experience is not taken into account.
- Proof of recognition as a late repatriate (Spätaussiedler/Spätaussiedlerin)
- Proof of your qualification (school, university or vocational qualification)
- You are a late repatriate (Spätaussiedler or Spätaussiedlerin)
- You have acquired your degree in a resettlement area
In order to have your degree obtained abroad verified, you must submit an application. This should be addressed to the competent authority. Which office is responsible for you depends on the following factors:
- Your foreign qualification,
- your place of residence or work,
The competent authority will compare your foreign qualification with the German reference qualification. If this comparison does not reveal any significant differences, you will be certified as having full equivalence.
If there is partial equivalence in the regulated professions, the competent body will inform you of concrete measures you can take to compensate for the differences found.
to compensate for the differences found.
"Regulated" means that you need recognition of your professional qualifications in order to practise the profession or use the professional title.
In those professions for which you do not necessarily need recognition (non-regulated), you will receive a notice detailing the differences you have found. This will enable you to apply directly to employers or to choose a further training course that suits you individually.
The recognition procedure ends with either a positive or a negative decision.
Partial recognition is not envisaged.
If you have lost certificates of competence for your profession, these can be reissued.
You can also go through the equivalence procedure under the Federal Qualification Assessment Act (BQFG). This is possible for 600 occupations that are regulated by a federal law. You can find out exactly which occupations this applies to on the federal government's website (BQ-Portal).
- Easier recognition for late repatriates
- Possible for all certificates and qualifications (school, university or vocational qualifications)
- Alternatively, recognition according to the Federal Qualification Assessment Act (BQFG) is possible (also after negative recognition according to the BVFG)
