The Bremen Monument Protection Act regulates the tasks of monument protection and monument preservation. The tasks include

• the scientific research,
• the protection,
• the care and
• preservation of cultural monuments.

The undertaking of a constructional measure requires in any case the approval of the responsible monument protection authority. This applies to both measures on the interior and exterior of a monument. Construction measures in the immediate vicinity of a protected monument must also be approved by the monument protection authority.

• Before structural measures are carried out on a cultural monument, the approval of the monument protection authority must be obtained.
• This approval can be applied for informally.
• The monument protection authority then checks whether the construction measure applied for complies with the given legal basis.
• Depending on the construction measure, further necessary documents may be required.
• If the constructional measure does not stand in the way of any regulations relating to the protection of historical monuments, the permit will be issued.

Tax depreciation:

Tax relief can be granted for monuments. For tax depreciation according to §§ 7i ff EStG, however, a separate written coordination procedure with the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments must be carried out before the start of the measure.
