If you are continuing your education, you can, under certain conditions, receive financial support with the Advancement BAföG under the Advancement Training Promotion Act (AFBG)

With the Advancement BAföG according to the Advancement Training Promotion Act (AFBG), the federal and state governments provide financial support for participation in professional advancement training measures by contributing to the costs of the measure and living expenses. You are entitled to the funding if you meet the legal requirements. The funding includes state grants for living expenses, among other things, which do not have to be repaid. In addition, you can receive a low-interest loan from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), which can be used to cover the difference between state grants and the maximum funding amount. If you pass the advanced training exam, the loan amount is reduced by 50 percent; if you start a business, the loan is waived by 100 percent.

The Advancement BAföG provides funding for the following, regardless of income: • course costs, • examination fees and • material costs for a master's examination project. For full-time courses, living expenses are also supported, depending on income. You can claim the funding up to three times under certain conditions.

You are entitled to the subsidy if, among other things:

• You are preparing for an eligible training goal
• the preparatory measure includes a certain minimum duration and number of teaching hours per week or month
• the measure does not exceed a maximum time frame,
• the provider of the training is certified or has another quality assurance system and
• You meet the personal eligibility requirements.

The office responsible for you will advise and inform you about the funding options available with the Advancement BAföG. You can find the office responsible for you using the postcode search.

• You submit your application for funding in writing or electronically to the office responsible for you.
• After receipt of the complete application documents, the responsible authority will decide on the amount of funding and you will receive a notification of the state subsidies.
• You will then receive a contract offer from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) for the possible additional loan.
• If, for example, you become ill during the training, you must inform both the training provider and the responsible authority.

The processing time depends on the submission of the complete application documents.

The contribution towards the measure must be applied for no later than the end of the measure, or in the case of several independent phases, by the end of the respective phase of the measure.
