If you would like to work as a veterinarian in Germany after studying veterinary medicine, apply for a license to practice at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Integration and Consumer Protection (MSGIV).
If you wish to work permanently as a veterinarian in Germany, you must be licensed (approbiert) for this activity. You must apply for a license to practice in the country in which you wish to work as a veterinarian.

- Original medical certificate (not older than 1 month) stating that there are no indications that you are unfit in terms of health to properly exercise the profession.
- This must be issued and signed by a general practitioner or internal medicine practitioner established in Germany or another signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or in Switzerland and stamped with a practice or clinic stamp. If the practice or clinic stamp is not in German, a German translation of the stamp is required.

In Germany, this must be applied for at the registration office of the place of residence, stating the purpose "Approbation as a veterinarian". The certificate of good conduct will be sent directly to the competent authority by the Federal Office of Justice.

Please note:Foreign-language documents must be accompanied by a German translation. The translation must be carried out by an officially sworn document interpreter.

Veterinary training completed in one of the other EU/EEA states or in Switzerland is equivalent to training in Germany. The equivalence of the training must be proven.
You apply for a license to practice as a veterinarian in writing:
- You can obtain the necessary forms from the MSGIV.
- Complete the form and sign it by hand or provide it with a qualified electronic signature.
- The application must state that you wish to exercise the professional activity in Brandenburg.
- Attach the necessary supporting documents.
- Submit the application documents to the MSGIV.
- The MSGIV will then check whether you meet all the requirements.
- The MSGIV will inform you within 4 weeks whether your application is complete or whether you need to submit further documents.
- Once you have been licensed, you will receive a certificate of approval.
The official certificate of good conduct must not have been issued more than 1 month prior to submission.
The medical certificate must not be older than 1 month.
