If your child was born on a ship flying the German flag on a sea voyage, you are obliged to report it to the skipper. The registration of the birth is carried out by the registry office I in Berlin.
If a child is born during a voyage on a sea-going vessel flying the flag of the Federal Republic of Germany, the persons obliged to report the birth must immediately notify the skipper orally and provide the information necessary for the registration of the birth. The skipper shall draw up a record of these reports, which must contain the data on the newborn to be certified at a later date. The notification must be signed by the declarant and the skipper. The skipper sends the transcript to the nearest seamen's office, which forwards the report to the registry office I in Berlin for notarization.
If the sea-going vessel does not fly a federal flag, it is a foreign birth, which, under the conditions of § 36 PStG, is only certified upon application to the registry office of residence.

10,00 Euro: Birth certificate
5,00 Euro: each additional certificate if issued at the same time

- if the ship does not fly the German flag, it is a case of birth abroad. This can be re-certified at the responsible registry office of residence upon application.
