Would you like to continue your education or training? If you meet the requirements, you can apply for educational leave from your employer.
An important component of continuing education is educational leave, also known as educational leave in other federal states.
As an employee in Rhineland-Palatinate, you are entitled to paid leave from work if you wish to take advantage of further training. With a 5-day working week, you are entitled to ten working days within two consecutive calendar years (odd/even calendar year, for example 2025/2026 and 2027/2028). If your weekly working hours are regularly longer or shorter, your entitlement will change accordingly.
As a trainee, you are entitled to five days of training leave per training year to take part in socio-political training events.
If you would like to take part in further training, please note the following requirements:
- The employment or training relationship has existed for at least six months,
- Your employer has at least five employees,
- your employer can refuse to grant you a leave of absence for the planned date for compelling operational or official reasons,
- it is a recognized event of professional or socio-political further education according to the Rhineland-Palatinate Education Leave Act
- You choose a recognized training event and register for it
- You apply in writing to your employer for educational leave
- After completing the course, you submit your confirmation of participation to your employer
As an employee, you must apply in writing to your employer for educational leave at least six weeks before the start of the event, i.e. the first day of leave.
Further information on educational leave, recognized further training events and the legal basis can be found on the website of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitization or on the website of the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Care.
