§ 17 abs. 2 AufenthG

You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of applying for studies if you meet certain requirements for this.

You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of applying for study if you would like to study in Germany but you have not yet been allocated a study place or if no study place is securely available.
The residence permit for the study application is a temporary residence permit. It can be issued for a maximum of 9 months.
If you have not yet reached the age of 18, the persons entitled to care for persons must agree to your planned stay for the purpose of applying for study.

- Current biometric photo
- Visa, if necessary
- Proof of subsistence (e.B. declaration of commitment, blocked account with a bank, proof of the income of the parents or the like)
- Lease
- Proof of your health insurance
- Proof of a corresponding school leaving certificate
- Proof of existing language skills (e.B. a certificate) or practice the intended acquisition of language skills
- If necessary, consent of persons entitled to custody

- you have a recognised and valid passport or passport replacement and, if necessary for entry, a valid visa.
- There is no interest in expulsion against you.
- Your stay does not endanger or affect the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany.
- You have a school leaving certificate that directly entitles you to study in Germany or, alternatively, to attend a Studienkolleg.
- You have the language requirements for taking up your studies or can prove that you intend to acquire the language skills required for your studies in Germany within a maximum of 9 months.
- Your livelihood is secured for the duration of the study application.

Issuance of residence permit: EUR 100,00

Under certain conditions, a reduction in fees or exemption from fees may be considered.

The residence permit must be applied for at the immigration office responsible for your place of residence. The procedure is as follows:

• Depending on the immigration office and concerns, an application via the Internet may be possible. Find out whether your immigration office offers the electronic application for the residence permit.
• If the application is only possible in person, make an appointment with the immigration office. During the appointment, your application will be accepted and your proofs checked (bring them with you to the appointment). For the production of an electronic residence title (eAT card), your fingerprints will be taken.
• In the event of an electronic application, the Immigration Office will contact you after receipt of your online application in order to make an appointment at the Immigration Office if necessary. • If your application is complied with, the Immigration Office will arrange for the eAT card to be produced.
• After about six to eight weeks, you can pick up the eAT card at the Immigration Office.
