If your address changes, you must register in person or online at the registration office of your new home. The new address will also be changed on your ID card.
If your address has changed, for example after moving house, you must have your new address changed on your ID card at the registration office or change it yourself online.
The change of address is implemented with the help of an address sticker.
Even if you move abroad and no longer have an address in Germany, your ID card must be changed. The address sticker will then state "no residence in Germany".
However, the ID card does not become invalid just because the address is no longer correct.

- You will receive a code by post to your new address.

- The address data in the chip on your ID card will be changed.
- The registration office will then send you an address label with your new address by post.
- Finally, stick the address sticker with your new address over the old address on your ID card.
