The disposal of used glass from private households is the responsibility of the public waste disposal authorities. You can dispose of used glass at the respective collection points and recycling centers.
Used glass is particularly suitable for recycling, as it can be melted down again as often as required and processed into new high-quality products. Compared to the production of new glass, used glass recycling helps to conserve raw materials and reduce energy requirements. Used glass is usually recycled into container glass, for example bottles and jars for drinks and food.
You can dispose of empty, deposit-free glass packaging for food, drinks, cosmetics and medicine in the used glass container. White glass should be disposed of in the white glass container, brown glass in the brown glass container and green glass and glass of other colors in the green glass container.
Make sure that you only throw empty glass packaging into the bottle bank and remove the remains beforehand.
The disposal of glass waste from private households is the responsibility of the public waste disposal authorities.
This belongs in the bottle bank:
- Empty non-deposit one-way glass bottles or other empty glass packaging for food or cosmetics, for example,
- Lids and caps from jars or bottles can be removed beforehand and disposed of as packaging waste (yellow garbage can, yellow bag). Otherwise, they are sorted out in the used glass processing facility at the recycling plant and then recycled.
This does not belong in the bottle bank:
- Drinking glass,
- candle glass,
- crystal glass,
- window glass,
- mirror glass,
- car glass,
- fireproof glass such as laboratory glass,
- porcelain and ceramics,
- lamps or other foreign objects
Some of this waste has a different melting point, is difficult to sort out during used glass processing and can lead to high production losses or the accumulation of heavy metals in the container glass cycle, for example through lead crystal glass fragments. Therefore, this waste must not be disposed of in the used glass containers.
Information on the costs can be found in the respective waste fee statutes of your public waste disposal authority.
The disposal of glass waste is regulated in the individual statutes of the public waste disposal authorities. This also includes information on existing collection systems for glass waste (e.g. drop-off options at recycling centers, recycling centers, collection points or container services).
