Have you acquired a professional qualification as a curative education nurse abroad? Then you can apply for recognition of this qualification in Germany under certain conditions.

The profession of curative education nurse is regulated in Germany. This means that you must provide proof of a certain qualification in order to be allowed to work in the profession. If you have a foreign certificate of training as a curative education nurse, you can work in this profession in your chosen federal state under certain conditions.

To do this, you must submit an application with all the necessary documents to the relevant state authority. In the recognition procedure, the competent state authority compares your professional qualification from abroad with the professional qualification in the selected federal state. The procedure is called: equivalence assessment.

After your application has been reviewed, you will receive feedback. If you lack the professional qualifications required for recognition, the notification will state the main differences. You can then take a compensatory measure.

• Information on applications for recognition that have already been submitted. Please indicate the authority to which you have submitted the application.
  
  If your documents are not in German, you must submit German translations of your documents. The translations must be made by translators who are publicly appointed or authorized.
  You must submit the documents in written form. Certified copies of certificates must be submitted. The responsible office will inform you.

• You must be authorized to practice the profession in the country in which you are training.

Fees may be incurred. The amount depends on the cost of the recognition procedure.

You can apply to the relevant state authority to have the equivalence of your training as a curative education nurse determined. You must submit all necessary documents in the form of copies to the competent authority. Some documents must be submitted as certified copies. The competent authority will inform you.

The competent authority will then check: Is your professional qualification equivalent to the professional qualification in your federal state? For example, the content of the training and the duration of the training are important for the comparison. The competent authority will also take into account your professional experience, other certificates of competence and qualifications.

The competent body may then check other requirements. If your professional qualification is equivalent and you meet all other requirements, your professional qualification will be recognized. You may then work as a curative education nurse in the federal state.

If the competent authority is unable to determine the equivalence of your training and the German training, you will receive a notification with an explanation of the main differences. In order to compensate for significant differences, you can take a compensation measure. The competent authority will inform you which compensation measure you can take.

If you successfully complete the compensatory measure, you will receive recognition.

You can take legal action against the decision of the competent authority within a certain period of time (e.g. lodge a complaint). The decision will then be reviewed. Details can be found in the information on legal remedies at the end of your decision. We recommend that you first speak to the competent authority before taking legal action against the decision.

There is no deadline.

A prerequisite for the commencement of a recognition procedure is the applicant's consent to the Data Protection Regulation.

• Confirmation of receipt of the application will be sent no later than one month after the application has been submitted. Missing documents will be requested later if necessary.
• Processing time: 3 months from receipt of all necessary documents; one-time, reasonable extension possible
• If significant differences are found, a compensatory measure can be taken to obtain the permit.
