Would you like to work permanently as a food chemist in Germany? Then you must have your foreign professional qualification recognized.
The profession of food chemist is regulated in Germany. This means that you must have a certain qualification in order to be allowed to work in the profession. If you have a foreign professional qualification as a food chemist, you can work in this profession in your chosen federal state under certain conditions. To do this, you must submit an application with all the necessary documents to the relevant state authority.
In the recognition procedure, the competent state authority compares your professional qualification from abroad with the professional qualification in the selected federal state and makes an equivalence assessment. You will receive feedback after your application has been reviewed.
If your professional qualification is equivalent and you meet all other requirements, you may use the professional title "food chemist". If you lack the professional qualifications required for recognition, the notification will state the main differences. You can then take a compensatory measure.
- Curriculum vitae
- Proof of identity (identity card or passport)
- Proof of your professional qualification
- Proof of training
- Proof of professional experience as a food chemist
- Proof of other qualifications
- Certificate that the profession may be practiced in the country of training
- Information on applications for recognition that have already been submitted. Please indicate the body to which you have submitted the application.
If your documents are not in German, you must submit German translations of your documents. The translations must be made by translators who are publicly appointed or authorized.
- Equivalence of your professional qualification
- You must be authorized to practice the profession in the country in which you are training.
You can apply to the competent state authority to have the equivalence of your training as a food chemist established. You must submit all the necessary documents in the form of copies to the competent authority.
The competent authority will then check: Is your professional qualification equivalent to the professional qualification in your federal state? For example, the content of the training and the duration of the training are important for the comparison. The competent body will also take into account your professional experience, other certificates of competence and qualifications.
The competent body may then check other requirements. If your professional qualification is equivalent and you meet all other requirements, your professional qualification will be recognized. You may then work as a food chemist in the federal state.
If the competent authority cannot determine equivalence, you will receive a notification with an explanation of the significant differences. In order to compensate for significant differences, you can take a compensation measure. If you successfully complete the compensation measure and meet the other requirements, you will receive recognition.
You can take legal action against the decision of the competent authority within a certain period of time (for example, by lodging an objection). The decision will then be reviewed. Details can be found in the information on legal remedies at the end of your decision. We recommend that you first speak to the responsible office before taking legal action against the decision.
