If a child is born during a voyage on a sea-going vessel entitled to fly the federal flag, there is an obligation to report the birth to the registry office I in Berlin. The custodial parent files the birth notification with the ship's master. If the parents are unable to attend, any other person who was present at the birth is also obliged to report the birth.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • In case of parents married to each other
    • Birth certificates of the parents, if necessary with translation, legalization or apostille
    • Marriage certificate or a certified printout from the marriage register, if necessary with translation, legalization or apostille
  • In case of parents who are not married to each other
    • Birth certificate of the mother, if necessary with translation, legalization or apostille
    • if paternity has already been acknowledged
      • Declaration of acknowledgement of paternity and declaration of consent of the mother
      • Birth certificate of the father
      • if applicable, the declaration of custody
      • all with translation, legalization or apostille, if necessary
  • identity card, passport or a recognized passport replacement document of the parents

A marriage certificate and proof of dissolution of marriage must also be submitted if the marriage has since been divorced or the husband has died within 300 days prior to the birth of the child.

Voraussetzungen

If a child is born on a German seagoing vessel, notification is mandatory. This applies regardless of the nationality of the parents or the child.

Kosten

Gebühr: 6€ - 12€
The issuing of a birth certificate is subject to fees according to Berlin state law. Currently, one certificate costs 12.00 EUR, each additional certificate ordered at the same time and of the same type costs 6.00 EUR.

Verfahrensablauf

  • The custodial parent or - if he or she is prevented from doing so - another person who was present at the birth, files the birth announcement with the ship's master.
