Note: Permission under aviation law to release an unmanned free balloon can only be granted for light weather balloons (maximum 4 kg), as Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) is currently unable to issue air traffic control clearance for medium and heavy free balloons.
The following types of airspace use are also subject to authorization:
- the ascent of tethered balloons if they are held by a tether longer than 30 m,
- the launching of kites with ropes longer than 100 m,
- the ascent of fireworks if they rise more than 300 m,
- the operation of uncontrolled, self-propelled flying objects (this includes flying objects that cannot be controlled in the air, such as model rockets)
as well as
- the operation of searchlights or optical light signaling devices. This applies in particular to laser devices that are capable of dazzling pilots during approach to or departure from an airfield.

- Applications can only be submitted for ascent locations within Germany.
- Consent of the landowner or authorized person
- Completion of (aviation) liability insurance
- Current aerial photo of the launch site
- You can apply for permission to use the airspace using the form which you can obtain here via Amt24 (see -> Forms and other offers).
- Complete the form as indicated and send it together with all other required documents to the responsible office.
- After a successful check, you will receive a written notice of approval.
