Application for authorisation or follow-up authorisation to carry out medical monitoring of occupationally exposed persons in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV)
Are you a doctor and would like to carry out medical monitoring of occupationally exposed persons? Then you need an official authorisation in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV). If you can prove that you meet the necessary requirements, you can apply for authorisation as a radiation protection physician from the competent authority.
The authorisations are valid nationwide. They are issued for the Free State of Saxony by the State Directorate of Saxony.
Local responsibility is determined by the place of residence.
Depending on the type of authorisation:
- Copy of the licence to practise medicine
- Copy of proof of specialist or additional qualification
- Specialist certificate (initial authorisation) from the Saxon State Medical Association
- Proof of specialist knowledge update (update course for subsequent authorisation)
- Licence to practise medicine or permission to practise medicine on a temporary basis
- expertise in radiation protection required for medical supervision
Details can be found in the guideline module "Required expertise in radiation protection for medical supervision - prerequisite for the authorisation of physicians according to § 175 paragraph 1 sentence 1 StrlSchV" (see -> Legal basis)
Examination and certification of expertise
The examination and certification of the acquisition of specialist knowledge in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance is the responsibility of the Saxon State Medical Association.
Please enclose the certificate of specialist knowledge with the application for authorisation.
Application for authorisation
Submit your application in writing to the Saxony State Directorate (see -> Competent authority).
- As soon as your application documents have been submitted in full, the competent authority will carry out an examination and request further documents if necessary.
- You will receive a written notification of the result.
You must provide proof of your expertise in radiation protection at least every five years by successfully completing an update course.
- Period of validity: 5 years
- Updating of expertise: every 5 years by attending a corresponding course (updating course)
Note: Authorisation may only be granted if the specialist knowledge in radiation protection required for medical monitoring in the event of occupational exposure is demonstrated. The authorisation is limited to five years.
