The study of pharmacy includes a final examination. Proof of passing the examination is a prerequisite for licensure as a pharmacist. Admission to the examination in Saxony is granted upon application by the state directorate.

Pharmaceutical training comprises:

• a study of pharmacy of four years at a university,
• a clinical traineeship of eight weeks
• a practical training of twelve months,
• the Pharmaceutical Examination, which is to be taken in three examination sections.

The examination sections of the Pharmaceutical Examination are taken:

• the First Section after studying pharmacy for at least two years,
• the Second Section after passing the First Section and after studying pharmacy for at least four years,
• the Third Section after passing the Second Section and after completing the subsequent practical training.

You must enclose with your application for admission to the pharmaceutical examination, among other things:

• the birth certificate, in the case of married persons or registered partners also the marriage / civil partnership certificate
• proof of higher education entrance qualification (university entrance qualification); in the case of certificates obtained at foreign educational institutions, also the recognition notice from the competent authority
• proof of clinical traineeship or, in the case of pharmacist assistants, pharmacy engineers, pharmaceutical-technical assistants and pharmacy assistants, the corresponding certificates
• proof of having studied pharmacy for two years
• certificates of participation in the courses of study

First section

• Pharmacy studies of at least two years
• Clinical traineeship of eight weeks
• Regular and successful participation in the courses in the subject areas listed in Annex 1 to the AAppO letters A to D

Second section

• Successful completion of the first section of the pharmaceutical examination
• Study of pharmacy for at least four years
• Regular and successful participation in the courses in the subject areas listed in Annex 1 to the AAppO letters E to I as well as an elective subject

Third section

• Successful completion of the second section of the pharmaceutical examination
• Successful completion of at least one year of practical training
• Participation in the accompanying teaching events

You must register in writing for the Pharmaceutical Examination. Use the prescribed forms in each case. Submit your application with the required documents to the responsible office.

The State Examination Office for Academic Health Professions (Landesprüfungsamt für akademische Heilberufe) announces the examination dates every six months on the Internet.
