It is quite possible that an identity card has only been temporarily lost. If you have had your activated online identity card function blocked in the meantime, you can of course have it unblocked again.

For security reasons, you can only have the online ID function unblocked in person. It is not possible to do this by proxy. It is also not possible to unblock the online ID function via the unblocking emergency call.

You inform the Personalausweisbehörde of your request (unblocking request). Once you have been identified, the identity card authority will arrange for the card to be unblocked.

The online ID function will be unblocked immediately.

If you initiate the unblocking at the municipality that issued your identity card, the unblocking will usually be carried out immediately so that you can wait for the information that the unblocking has been successfully carried out.

If you unblock your identity card at the local authority in your current place of residence, which did not issue your identity card, it will usually forward your unblocking request immediately to your "ausstellende Personalausweisbehörde" so that they can arrange for it to be unblocked without delay. However, this may take some time due to the different working hours of the authorities and longer communication channels.
