Persons who test the hazard potential of explosions and fires of equipment, protective systems, safety, control or regulating devices must be recognised.

This administrative service includes the official recognition of a qualified person for examinations of:

• Devices
• protection systems or
• Safety, control or control devices within the meaning of the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU)

after repair of a part on which explosion protection depends.

Details of the applicant

1. Address of the establishment or department in which the person authorised to carry out an examination recognised by the authority is to work
2. Details of the contact person for queries
3. Audit tasks and scope for which recognition is requested
4. Proof of the need for testing and indication of the equipment to be tested, the protective systems, safety, control and control devices to be tested after repair
5. Declaration by the applicant concerning the freedom of instruction of the person qualified to carry out the examination
6. Quality system certification certificate, if available, or information on the quality procedure

Details of the qualified person

1. Full name
2. Date and place of birth,
3. Occupation
4. Applicant's home address
5. Copy of the employment contract between the applicant and the person qualified to carry out the examination
6. Curriculum vitae of the applicant stating the professional background and professional practice up to the time of application as well as copies of certificates of previous employment relationships
7. Copies of the skilled worker certificate, the master craftsman's certificate and certificate, the diploma certificate and the diploma certificate or comparable proof of qualification
8. Copies of certificates of participation in training measures, relevant exchanges of experience
9. Police clearance certificate, document type 0
10. Declaration by the person qualified to carry out the examination on the freedom to issue instructions.

Expert opinion:

After the scope of the examination has been determined by the recognition authority, the applicant commissions an expert to give an expert opinion. This statement refers to the technical and organizational requirements of the company and the examination of the personal suitability of the applicant and his skills and knowledge of the legal standards in question for the corresponding test work. Insofar as the applicant has been accredited as a test laboratory or inspection body according to standards of the DIN EN ISO/IEC 17000 series, the scope of the expert opinion and, if applicable, the sample test will be coordinated accordingly.

Written confirmation from the insurer of an existing liability insurance in the amount of 2.5 million euros for the activity of the recognised person qualified to carry out the examination in accordance with the declaration of exemption

• Completed technical vocational training or proof of another technical qualification of the person to be recognised, which qualifies for the intended test task
• Practical experience of the person to be recognised with comparable work equipment over a reasonable period of time, so that the assigned test task is reliably performed
• Activity of the person to be recognised in the context of the upcoming examination of the work equipment to be tested as well as appropriate further training
• Expert opinion on the qualification of the person to be recognised as well as on the equipment and quality assurance of the company
• Proof of the regular need for such tests

1. ONLINE: Submission of documents with the exception of expert opinion
2. Not online: Inspection of the company and the testing workplace by the recognition authority and determination of the expert scope of the audit by the recognition authority
3. Commissioning of the expert by the operator
4. ONLINE: Submission of the opinion to the recognition authority
5. Notice of recognition or rejection

The processing time is two weeks after receipt of the expert opinion.
