If your workshop card is about to expire, you will need to submit a request for renewal of the card.

The workshop card is a tachograph card issued to an approved recording equipment manufacturer, installer, vehicle manufacturer or workshop. It identifies the cardholder and allows the data from the recording equipment to be checked, calibrated and downloaded.

The workshop card is used by the technicians of the workshops authorised under § 57b StVZO who install and calibrate the digital tachographs as well as by manufacturers of the tachographs. It is PIN-protected and valid for 1 year.

When applying, the recognition or commissioning of the workshop in accordance with § 57b StVZO and proof of the training of the responsible specialist (technician) must be submitted. The documents must not be older than 3 years.

The validity period of the workshop follow-up card is 1 year.

The competent authority shall renew the card within 15 working days of receipt of the application and submission of all necessary documents.

- As an authorized representative, a power of attorney or - as the owner of the company - an informal letter stating your name, address as well as birthday and place of birth.

The workshops, manufacturers of tachographs and vehicle manufacturers recognized and commissioned in accordance with § 57b StVZO are eligible to apply.

Depending on the federal state, you can submit the application for the renewal of your workshop card with the necessary documents and information online or on site

• At your local driving licence authority
• or another competent body (e.g. TÜV, DEKRA).
• In order to identify yourself online and check your documents, you must have the option of online authentication using a company account and digital upload of the required documents.
• You can pay for the application online via a payment service provider.
• The creation of a workshop card is subject to a fee.
• As part of the application, you must provide all the required information and submit or upload documents.
• The competent authority will check your information for completeness and correctness.
• The personalized workshop card will be sent to the company by post or handed over against acknowledgment of receipt.
• The required identification number (PIN number) will be sent directly to the responsible professional at the specified private address

For each application for renewal of a workshop card due to expiry of the deadline, the company must provide proof that the commissioned specialist (technician) is still employed by the company. The written proof of the employment relationship must be signed by both sides by the employer and the commissioned specialist.

The renewal of the workshop card should be requested at least 15 working days before the validity of the previous workshop card expires
