Have you married abroad as a recognized stateless person, homeless person or recognized refugee? Then you can have the marriage certified at a registry office in Germany.
Are you recognized as a stateless person, homeless foreigner or foreign refugee with habitual residence in Germany and got married abroad? If so, you can submit an application to a German registry office for the marriage to be subsequently notarized after the marriage abroad.
The marriage must have been validly concluded in the country in which you got married. German law must not stand in the way of the marriage.
The registry office responsible for the subsequent certification is
- of your place of residence or
- the place where you last lived, or
- the place of your habitual residence.
- Application form for notarization of a foreign marriage
- foreign marriage certificate with translation; legalization or apostille if necessary
- Valid identity card, passport or travel document
- Birth certificates of spouse and spouse
- Naturalization certificate or citizenship card, if applicable
- If applicable, further documents with proof of authenticity and translation, depending on the individual case
You must submit all documents in the original.
- The marriage was entered into abroad and at least one of the spouses is stateless, a homeless foreigner or a recognized foreign refugee with habitual residence in Germany.
- Neither of the spouses was or is in possession of German citizenship.
- The marriage is legally valid and compatible with German law.
