Medical training comprises
- six years of medical studies at a university or equivalent institution of higher education. The final year of the course comprises 48 weeks of continuous practical training (practical year), which can also be completed part-time,
- training in first aid,
- a nursing service of three months,
- a clinical traineeship of four months and
- the medical examination, which is completed in three stages.
In order to complete your medical training, you must successfully pass the medical examination before the authority responsible for you. This is a prerequisite for licensure as a doctor.
You must apply for admission to the relevant section of the medical examination at the office responsible for you.
The first section of the medical examination is taken after studying medicine for two years. The second section of the medical examination is taken after studying medicine for three years after passing the first section of the medical examination. The third section of the medical examination is taken after studying medicine for one year after passing the second section of the medical examination.
First section of the medical examination:
- Birth certificate, marriage certificate if applicable
- Proof of higher education entrance qualification, in the case of certificates obtained abroad, also the notice of recognition from the competent authority under state law
- transcript of records or the documents used by the respective university as proof of periods of study. You can submit this proof at a later date within a period specified by the office responsible for you if you are not yet able to attach it to the application.
- The certificate or a summary certificate of successful participation in the courses prescribed by the licensing regulations for doctors. You can submit this proof at a later date within a period specified by the office responsible for you if you are not yet able to attach it to the application.
- Proof of participation in first aid training
- Proof of completion of the nursing service
Second section of the medical examination:
- Birth certificate, marriage certificate if applicable,
- Student record book or the documents used by the respective university as proof of study periods. You can submit this proof at a later date within a period specified by the office responsible for you if you are not yet able to attach it to the application.
- Certificates or a summary certificate of successful participation in the courses prescribed by the licensing regulations for doctors, including the performance records in accordance with Section 27 (1) to (4) of the licensing regulations for doctors and proof of completion of the clinical traineeship. You can submit this proof at a later date within a period specified by the office responsible for you if you are not yet able to enclose it with the application.
- Certificate of passing the first section of the medical examination
Third section of the medical examination:
- Birth certificate, marriage certificate if applicable,
- Student record book or the documents used by the respective university as proof of study periods. You can submit this proof within a period specified by the office responsible for you if you are not yet able to attach it to the application.
- Certificates of the practical year in accordance with the model in Annex 4 of the licensing regulations for doctors. If you have not yet completed the practical year, you must submit a provisional certificate from the doctor responsible for the training stating that you will complete the training by the date of the examination. You must submit the final certificate in accordance with the specimen in Appendix 4 immediately upon receipt and no later than one week before the start of the examination.
- Certificate of passing the second section of the medical examination
In order to be admitted to the relevant section of the medical examination, you must enclose the necessary evidence with your application.
You must submit the application for admission to an examination section of the medical examination in writing in the form prescribed by the competent state authority.
Use the forms prescribed by the state authority responsible for you. Submit your application with the required documents to the authority responsible for you.
The invitation to the written examination will be sent no later than seven calendar days before the examination date. The summons to the oral-practical examination will be sent no later than five calendar days before the examination date.
The application for admission to an examination section must be received by the competent authority in accordance with state law by January 10 or June 10.
