Are you blind or have severely impaired vision? Do you have a low income? Then you can apply for assistance for the blind!
In Bremerhaven, blind people can apply for so-called assistance for the blind according to SGB XII in addition to the state care allowance due to blindness if they only have a low income or assets. You can apply for this assistance for the blind as well as the state care allowance at the Bremerhaven Social Welfare Office.
The blind person's allowance according to the Social Security Code XII, which supplements the state care allowance in the case of low income and assets, currently amounts to
- blind people of full age: 841.77 euros
- underage blind people: 421.61 euros

- Severely disabled person's pass with the mark "BL" or a notice of assessment according to SGB IX from the pension office
If the above-mentioned certificate of severe disability/assessment notice is not available, the eligibility requirements will be checked by means of a medical report.
Assistance for the blind supports the following groups of people if they only have a small amount of income or assets at their disposal:
- blind people
- People whose visual acuity in the better eye is no more than 1/50
- People with equally severe visual impairment
The application is valid from the date of notification. This can be done by telephone, post or e-mail.
If you do not have a severely disabled person's pass with the "BL" mark or an assessment notice from the pension office in accordance with SGB IX, the eligibility requirements will be checked by means of a medical report.
Legal remedy
- Appeal within one month of notification of the administrative decision
- Action before the social court within one month of notification of the objection decision
