If you, as the client, wish to use a building that does not require a building permit, you must notify the building supervisory authority at least two weeks in advance.

If you, as the client, wish to use a building that is not exempt from procedures, you must notify the responsible lower building supervisory authority at least two weeks in advance.

For buildings in building class 4, with the exception of special buildings as well as medium-sized and large garages, you must also submit the "Confirmation that the construction complies with the fire protection certificate" with the notification of commencement of use.

• Display of usage recording
• Confirmation that the construction complies with the fire protection certificate (only for buildings in building class 4, excluding special buildings and medium-sized and large garages)
• Fire protection certificate (if not tested by the building authorities; only for buildings in building class 4, with the exception of special buildings and medium-sized and large garages with periodic building authority testing)

A building may only be used when it itself, access roads, water supply and sewage disposal systems and communal facilities are safe to use to the extent required,

Fireplaces or other fixed firing installations may only be put into operation once the authorized district chimney sweep has checked and certified their safe usability and the suitability and safe usability of the associated exhaust gas systems or ventilation systems into which exhaust gases are discharged. Combustion engines and combined heat and power plants may only be put into operation once he or she has certified the suitability and safe usability of the pipes for the discharge of combustion gases. This also applies to any significant modification of installations.

Check whether a notification of commencement of use is required for your building. If a notification of commencement of use is required:

• Compile the necessary information and evidence.
• Send the notification to the responsible lower building supervisory authority.

Fireplaces may only be put into operation once the authorized district chimney sweep has certified the suitability and safe usability of the flue gas systems.

Ask your designer (usually an architect or civil engineer) which certificates are required for your specific project.
