If you cannot ensure that your child is well at home with you, your child can live temporarily or for a longer period in an assisted living facility.

Education in an institution during the day and night or in another form of assisted living is intended to promote the development of children and young people.

This is a type of educational support service. It may also be suitable as a service for young people in accordance with §41 SGB VIII.

The type of care depends on the age and stage of development of the child or young person. In the various forms of residential care, specialists provide your child with educational and therapeutic support.

Home education or another form of supervised living is a form of educational assistance. Depending on the situation, the help is intended to

• achieve a return to the family,
• prepare for parenting in another family,
• offer a long-term form of living.

• identity card/passport

  If a German identity card/passport is to be authenticated, a written proof of what this authentication is required for must be brought along.

• Proof of custody

  For example: birth certificate, information from the custody register or decision of the family court on custody.

• You are the parent or guardian of a child (the person with custody of the child).
• You are unable to care for and raise the child in a way that is good for the child.
• Help in the form of placing your child in a home or other form of assisted living is suitable and necessary.

• Contact the responsible youth welfare office.
• You will be shown possible help in a personal meeting. The youth welfare office will try to support you so that your child can continue to stay with you.
• If the youth welfare office deems it necessary to place your child in a home or other form of supervised accommodation, you can submit a corresponding application for educational assistance.
• All parties involved (you, your child, the caregivers from the care facility and the youth welfare office) will meet for a help plan discussion. The help plan sets out how the help is to be organized and what goals are to be achieved.
• The youth welfare office will look for a suitable facility. You can express your wishes. If there are several options, you can choose the facility.
• Regular checks are carried out to determine whether the help is still suitable and whether your child can return to the family.
