When a foster child is admitted, a one-off lump sum is granted and transferred with the first care allowance.

When a foster child is taken into full-time care, foster carers receive one-off and lump-sum benefits or allowances.

The number, scope and amount of the flat-rate benefits may vary depending on state law or the implementation guidelines of the federal states. Seek advice from your local youth welfare office or foster care service.

• Existing full-time care relationship.
• If applicable, permission for full-time care according to §44 SGB VIII

• No applications are required for initial housing and clothing allowances.
• The amounts are paid out with the first payment of the monthly lump sums. Further information on this can be found in the service "Applying for monthly benefits for the maintenance of a foster child".
• An informal application is sufficient for initial baby equipment.
• Seek advice from the Youth Welfare Office.
