Afghan nationals who had to flee their place of residence in Afghanistan as a result of the war in their home country and after the Taliban seized power can apply for admission through their relatives living in Bremen.
The Senator for the Interior and Sport has stipulated in a decree, which will come into force on 01.08.2023, that Afghan nationals who have had to flee their place of residence in Afghanistan as a result of the war in their home country and following the seizure of power by the Taliban can apply for admission through their relatives living in Bremen.
An essential prerequisite is, among other things, that
- there is a close family relationship to the Afghan or German nationals living in Bremen and
- the host or a third party is economically able and accordingly undertakes to pay for their living expenses (excluding health care costs).
Notes on kinship relation
Beneficiaries are spouses, first-degree relatives (parents, children), second-degree relatives (grandparents, grandchildren or siblings) and their spouses and minor children.
The application for a residence permit pursuant to Section 23 (1) of the Residence Act must be submitted in writing. The application can initially be made informally, by e-mail to afghanistan@migrationsamt.bremen.de.
A personal visit is not required for this purpose.
The application should state who wishes to enter the country and what family relationship exists. In addition, you should already provide information about the amount of your monthly income (e.g. earned income).
