If it is important for their development, young adults can also receive help with upbringing after their 18th birthday and be placed in full-time care.

The goals of help with upbringing in full-time care are not achieved in the short term. When a foster child turns 18, assistance can be continued. This is to ensure that progress achieved in the development of the young adult is not jeopardized. Young adults receive assistance as long as their personality development does not allow them to lead a self-determined, independent and responsible life.

In the case of continuation of the assistance, the previous offer is continued.

The continuation of help must be applied for before the 18th birthday. It can be granted until the child reaches the age of 21. In exceptional cases, it can also be granted beyond this age.

Granting of help for upbringing according to §27 SGB VIII.

The continuation of the help can be applied for if the end of the help is due to the approaching age of majority and/or because a continuation would contribute to the stabilization of the situation of the adolescent or young adult.
