Förderung für die Wohnungsmodernisierung von der Gemeinde Bewilligung

Anyone wishing to replace their old oil boiler with a more energy-efficient and climate-friendly alternative can apply for a grant from the Senator for the Environment.

Funding is available for the replacement of oil-fired boilers with

• a heat supply with local or district heating based on combined heat and power, heat from waste incineration or waste heat,
• a heat pump or
• by boilers based on wood pellets or wood chips

in each case also in combination with solar thermal water heating or solar thermal heating support.

Private individuals as building owners, tenants and leaseholders as well as companies that have contractually taken over the heat supply and/or hot water supply of a building (so-called contractors) are eligible to apply.

Funding can be granted for existing buildings in the state of Bremen regardless of their type of use (residential, commercial). The measure must be carried out by a specialist company registered in the craftsmen's register. A decommissioning certificate must be submitted for the decommissioning of the old oil boiler, which must be issued by a specialist company.

The Bremen subsidy for heat pumps, solar thermal systems, wood pellet boilers and wood chip boilers can only be claimed if an application for subsidy under the federal subsidy for efficient buildings (BEG) has also been submitted for these systems beforehand and a subsidy commitment is presented for this. Funding commitments for which a funding application has been submitted to BAFA or KfW as of May 15, 2023, i.e., as of the effective date of the current version of the Bremen Funding Guidelines, will be recognized. Connection to a district heating network is simultaneously subsidized by the climate protection senator, by swb, and by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) through grants.

New: subsidies for heat pumps

Whether a heat pump can be operated efficiently in an existing building in an individual case depends, among other things, on whether and to what extent the building envelope has already been renovated for energy efficiency and which heat distribution system is installed in the building.

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) has launched an information campaign on the subject of "energy transition". On the BMWK's information page, you can find, among other things, the Heat Pump Suitability Analysis, where you can fill out a questionnaire to get initial information about the suitability of the building that is to be heated by a heat pump in the future, as well as information about which prerequisites still need to be created in order to be able to operate a heat pump efficiently and at the lowest possible electricity costs in an existing building.

Applications for funding must be submitted there.
