A business registration is required when starting a business operation.

A business registration is always required when an independent operation of a standing trade, a branch office or a dependent branch office is started.

The business registration is required in order to be allowed to operate a trade. In addition, registration in the register of skilled crafts may be necessary, which must be applied for at the Chamber of Skilled Crafts.

A trade re-registration with the competent trade registration office is always necessary if an independent registered business of a standing trade, a branch office or a dependent branch office either changes the location of the business (new address within a registration district) or the subject of the trade is changed or extended to goods or services that are not customary in trades of the registered type.

The trade re-registration complies with the obligation to notify the transfer of the registered office or the change of the subject matter of a trade from the point of view of trade law.

A trade deregistration is always required if the independent operation of a standing trade, a branch office or a dependent branch office is discontinued. This also applies if the trade is moved to another registration district.

The trade deregistration complies with the obligation to report the discontinuation of a trade from a trade law perspective.

• Identity card or passport

  - one copy is sufficient in case of written notification
  - in case of representation with written power of attorney, the authorised representative must be able to identify himself with an identity card or passport

• any necessary permits

  (e.g. restaurant concession)

• Craft card, if applicable
• Extract from the commercial register, if applicable

  for legal entities, companies

• completed business registration form

The registered office of the business enterprise, branch office or dependent branch is in the city of Bremerhaven.

• With the registration of a trade - ONLINE (see button below: "further links") there is the possibility to enter the trade registration online and to transfer it electronically to the trade registration office. When entering your data, you will be guided by an assistant. At the end of the process, print out the notification, which is then also the confirmation. There is no extra confirmation from the Trade Registration Office.
• You can also register your business in writing or in person during opening hours.
• The business registration can also be processed almost completely online via the online portal gründung:digital. The application for business registration is filled out online and paperless and sent electronically to the responsible office. You can find out all the other details there.

Only trade registrations for sole proprietorships are accepted at Bürgerbüro Mitte (e.g. no limited liability companies); these should be submitted to the Ordnungsangelegenheiten/Gewerbe department in Stadthaus 5.
