If you are having trouble raising a child age 12 or older or a juvenile, you can apply for a guardian ad litem. The care assistant, on the other hand, is appointed by court order as part of juvenile court proceedings.
Educational assistants and care assistants look after and accompany adolescents from the age of 12 who need special support due to their current life situation in their family and social environment. The educational assistance helps the adolescent in particular
- in the event of problems at school or in training,
- in case of problems with the family or with other children
- or with problems in everyday life.
The aim is to promote the emotional and social skills as well as the independence of the person concerned. The specific problems of the person concerned are taken into account, with the involvement of the social environment.
A care assistant acts in a similar way to a relationship counselor. However, his or her appointment is ordered by a court. In the context of juvenile court proceedings, a judge may order that a juvenile be placed under the supervision of the care assistant.
Parents contact the relevant social center. The case is then assessed and an individual decision is made as to whether an educational assistant is the appropriate solution for the child. The social center helps with the application and also advises parents about other help options.
Which documents have to be submitted will be clarified directly with the responsible office in each individual case.
