Does your child want to play sports in a club or take part in a vacation camp? Does your child need learning support or financial help to finance the upcoming class trip?
If you are not personally able to provide these things for your child, you can apply for benefits from the education and participation package.
The legal entitlement to benefits includes the following benefits in detail:
- Sports, culture and leisure: To enable children to take part in sports, games and cultural activities, €15 per month is available per child for contributions, fees and, if applicable, equipment.
- Lunch at daycare center, school and after-school care: The participation of a child in lunch is free of charge.
- School supplies: For school materials such as satchels, pens and exercise books, 130.00 euros are granted for the first half of the school year and 65.00 euros for the second half of the school year.
- Learning support: Pupils are entitled to appropriate learning support insofar as this is suitable and additionally necessary to achieve the learning objectives that are essential under school law. This does not depend on whether there is a risk of promotion. The requirements include, in particular, that the school confirms the need and that there are no comparable offers.
- Day trips and school trips: The actual costs for day trips from the day care center or school are covered. Excursions/class trips lasting several days are also paid for.
- School transportation: Travel costs to school are covered if the school is a reasonable distance from the place of residence and the costs are not covered by another source.
Receipt of benefits according to:
- Social Code Book Two (Unemployment Benefit II)
- Book Twelfth of the Social Code (social assistance/security for old age and reduced earning capacity)
- Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act
- Housing Allowance Act (rent subsidy/burden subsidy)
- Federal Child Benefit Act (child supplement)
The application for benefits of unemployment benefit II (Hartz IV) and social benefit according to the Social Code Book II at the Jobcenter Bremerhaven also includes benefits for education and participation for children, adolescents and young adults. Adolescents and young adults aged 16 and over must provide proof of school attendance for this purpose.
Families who receive social assistance/basic security, housing allowance, the child supplement or benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act should contact the Social Welfare Office. Families who receive housing benefit or the child supplement must provide appropriate proof.
Note: A new application for these benefits must be submitted after the eligibility period has expired.
