Recognition according to the Law on Continuing Education in the State of Bremen (WBG) corresponds to a seal of quality that institutions of continuing education may use upon application and if certain requirements are met.
Recognition serves to ensure and increase the quality of continuing education in accordance with the Bremen Continuing Education Act and, in this respect, is also in the spirit of consumer protection. Recognition is granted upon application to the Senator for Children and Education.
The criteria required by the state and to be fulfilled by the institutions are regulated in the Continuing Education Act and in the implementing ordinance.
The criteria relate to legal, economic, organizational, spatial, factual, participant-oriented and subject-specific conditions, in particular with regard to the task-specific qualifications and continuous training of full-time and part-time educational staff. An essential component of recognition is proof of appropriate quality standards. The fulfillment of the recognition requirements must be confirmed by an independent expert opinion to be submitted by the applicant.
The recognition of an institution of further education according to the WBG has to be applied for in writing and in German language at the Senator for Children and Education.
The regular review of the fulfillment of the recognition requirements at recognized institutions of continuing education takes place within three years.
