Blindenhilfe - Hilfe in anderen Lebenslagen

Are you blind or severely limited in your ability to see? You have a low income? Then you can apply for assistance for the blind!

Due to the current situation, the social centers of the Office for Social Services in the municipality of Bremen have currently limited open office hours and home visits. Citizens are therefore asked to present their concerns by telephone or e-mail. In special cases, a personal appointment can be arranged. Corresponding emergency services have been set up in all social centers.

In Bremen, blind people can apply for the so-called blind assistance according to the SGBXII in addition to the state care allowance due to blindness, provided that they have only a small income or assets at their disposal. They can apply for the blind assistance as well as the blind allowance/state care allowance at the responsible social center or specialized service of their place of residence.

The blind assistance according to the Social Security Code XII, which supplements the state care allowance in case of low income and assets, is currently as follows for

• adult blind people: 841,77 Euro
• underage blind people: 421,61 Euro

Aid to the blind supports the following groups of people, provided that they have only a small income or assets at their disposal:

• blind people
• people whose visual acuity in the better eye is not more than 1/50
• people with equally severe impairment of vision

People with low income and assets can apply for assistance for the blind at the relevant social center or specialized service in their place of residence. The severely disabled person's ID card with the symbol "bl", the notice from the integration office or the expert opinion on exempted blindness must be presented.

The competent authority may request documentation, e.g. proof of impaired vision, proof of income and assets, etc.

Benefits from long-term care insurance will be credited against assistance for the blind.
