You would like to leave the Protestant or Catholic Church.

Resignation from the Protestant or Catholic Church can be declared in Bremen as follows:

• at the Bremen Protestant Church, Haus der Kirche, Franziuseck 2-4, 28199 Bremen, Tel: +49 421 5597 0
• at the Catholic Church: Infopunkt URBI, Hohe Straße 7, 28195, Tel.: +49 421 3694 0.
  - in Bremen-North also at the respective Catholic parish offices in Bremen-North.

Alternatively, the signature on a declaration of resignation can be certified by the following offices:

• at all notaries public,
• at the registry office Bremen-Mitte, if your postal code starts with the numbers 281, 282 or 283 and
• at the registry office Bremen-Nord, if your postal code starts with the numbers 287.

The resignation form will be handed out to you. Please send it to the responsible church.

• Identity card or passport

You can declare your resignation directly at the respective churches or have the signature under your resignation certified by the notaries.

If your signature is to be notarized at the relevant registry office, you have the option of filling out the resignation form in advance and signing it at the registry office while presenting your ID card. The signature will be certified by the registrar for a fee.

Send the declaration by mail to the responsible church so that the withdrawal from the church becomes effective upon receipt by the church. Members of the Roman Catholic Church who reside in Bremen-North send the declaration of resignation to the responsible parish office, since Bremen-North belongs to the diocese of Hildesheim.

The obligation to pay church tax ends at the end of the calendar month in which the declaration of leaving the church became effective.
