If you volunteer for a particularly long period of time, you can, under certain conditions, receive a commitment card in recognition of your achievements and receive discounts from participating partners.
With the Engagement Card, the city of Hamburg recognizes its citizens who dedicate a particularly large amount of time to volunteering for the common good. On the one hand, it is a visible sign of recognition and appreciation. On the other hand, it has a practical use, as its holders can redeem discounts from public, non-profit and private partners.
Before you receive an engagement card, it will be checked whether you meet the requirements to receive it. In addition, the organization you are involved with must confirm your stated commitment.
The Engagement Card is valid and can be used in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, but is only valid for a limited period of two years. It can be extended or reapplied for as often as you like, as long as you continue to meet the requirements to receive it. If you can prove that you have been volunteering continuously for 20 years to date and intend to continue volunteering, the benefits associated with the Engagement Card are available to you indefinitely. You cannot assert a legal claim to an Engagement Card.

- The voluntary commitment is at least two hours per week or 100 hours per year. The commitment can be combined in different areas of responsibility or in different organizations.
- The volunteer lives in Hamburg and/or the volunteer work is carried out in Hamburg. Volunteer work carried out in other federal states can be taken into account in an individual case review.
The commitment must be exercised at
- Associations or institutions whose non-profit status is recognised or
- Member organisations in a welfare association or

- public religious communities and their institutions
The minimum age of the volunteer is 16 years, in exceptional cases 15 years applies - analogous to the youth leader card (Juleica) (see below).
The commitment is voluntary, is oriented towards the common good and is unpaid. The payment of an expense allowance that does not exceed the tax allowances of Section 3,
2/3 numbers 26 (currently €3,000 annually) and 26a (€840 annually) of the Income Tax Act does not prevent you from receiving the Engagement Card. The benefits of the Engagement Card are generally subject to tax if the aforementioned allowances are exceeded.
You can apply for the engagement card using an online form from doin' good gGmbH. To do this, go to the doin' good gGmbH website and fill out the application form there to receive the engagement card with personal information and details of your voluntary work. doin' good gGmbH will check your eligibility for an engagement card based on your information. You will then receive an email that you must forward to your organization to confirm your information.

Applications can also be submitted analogously. To do so, download the application form from the doin' good gGmbH website. In this case, you must obtain confirmation from your organization in writing and send it to doin' good gGmbH by post or email together with the completed application form.
