§ 9 in conjunction with § 29 of the Hamburg Child Care Act (KibeG)
If you have your child looked after in a daycare facility, you will have to pay an additional fee towards the care costs once the level of care exceeds a certain level.
There are costs involved in having your child looked after in a daycare facility or by a childminder. The city of Hamburg covers these costs for its citizens within certain limits:
If your child is looked after in a daycare center for up to five hours a day or by a childminder for up to 25 hours a week, there are no costs for you. The same applies to daily care of up to six hours for children aged three and over with disabilities who receive integration assistance as part of daycare.
If you need more extensive care for your child, you usually have to cover part of the costs yourself. This portion is called the parental contribution.

There are no fees for determining parental contributions. Parental contributions vary and are staggered according to income level, family size and the extent of care. You can use the daycare contribution calculator to calculate your expected parental contribution.
- You apply for the daycare voucher or approval for child day care.
- As part of the approval process, the responsible authority will check whether and how much parental contribution you have to pay.
- If necessary, you will receive a written notice stating the parental contribution you have to pay.
If you have to pay a parental contribution but your financial situation changes and you can no longer cover the costs, you have the option of applying for a reduction or exemption from payments. You can also apply for a discount if several of your children are cared for at the same time (sibling discount).
