If you are a person of foreign origin and want to hunt in Germany and you have not passed a German hunting exam, you must apply for a foreign hunting license.
If you are a foreign citizen and want to hunt in Germany, you usually need a German hunting license. If you have not taken a hunting exam in Germany, you must apply for a foreign hunting license. If you want to hunt regularly in Germany, you can apply for this in the form of an annual hunting license.
- Proof of identity (e.g. ID card or passport)
- Hunting license from your home country
- if applicable, certificate of the hunter’s examination with additional documents
- current photograph
- Proof of statutory hunting liability insurance
- You are at least 18 years old when issuing the permit
- You are a foreign citizen and your main residence is not in Germany
- You have the necessary personal reliability
- You have the necessary physical fitness
- You have taken out hunting liability insurance
- You have taken a hunting exam abroad that is comparable to the German hunting exam
- You are in possession of a valid hunting license from your home country
There is an administration fee. The amount of the fee depends on the type and scope of your application.
- You submit your application in writing or online and provide the necessary documents.

- The responsible authority will check your application for completeness and correctness and, if necessary, request any missing documents or information from you.

The annual hunting license is valid for a maximum of three consecutive hunting years. The hunting year begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st of each calendar year.
