If you would like to apply for a suspension of compulsory schooling for your child, please contact the school your child attends.
Compulsory school attendance is suspended for a pupil for at least four months before and six months after giving birth, provided that the pupil requests this (Section 40 Paragraph 1 of the Hamburg School Act).
Compulsory schooling is suspended for the duration of military or civilian service or a voluntary social or ecological year. It can be suspended upon request for the duration of attendance at an educational institution or employment or in other justified individual cases (Section 40 Paragraph 2 of the Hamburg School Act).
An application must always be submitted in writing to the previous school with appropriate supporting documents.
