If you want to move to Germany to be with your foreign minor child, you can obtain a residence permit for family reunification.
If you, as a third-country national, want to move to Germany to join your foreign, minor child, you can obtain a residence permit for family reunification.
- Valid passport or passport replacement
- Current biometric photo
- Visa, if required for entry
- Proof of custody of the child to whom the applicant is to join
- Birth certificate of the minor child to whom the family is to be joined
- Residence permit of the minor child in Germany to whom the child is to be joined
- Current registration certificate
- You have a recognized and valid passport or passport replacement.
- If required for your entry, you have an appropriate visa.
- Your child is under 18 years of age.
- Your child is staying in Germany without the accompaniment of a parent with custody.
- Your child has a residence permit as a resettlement refugee, a recognised person entitled to asylum or a recognised refugee, or a settlement permit for humanitarian, political or international law reasons.
- There is no interest in deporting you.
- Your stay does not endanger or impair the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Additional fees may apply for the issuance of the residence permit in the form of the electronic residence permit, which can also be used as electronic proof of identity.
- You make an appointment with the responsible authority.
- You appear at the appointment and submit your application along with the necessary documents.
- The responsible authority will examine your application and, if necessary, request any missing information or documents from you.
- If your application is approved, the responsible authority will commission an external agency to produce your electronic residence permit (eAT card).
- You will be informed when your eAT card is ready for collection. You must collect the eAT card in person.
