If you inherit weapons, you may need to render them unusable and report this to the relevant authorities.

If you have inherited weapons or ammunition but do not have a gun license and cannot prove that you need them, you must render the weapons unusable or have them fitted with a modern blocking system. A recognized gun dealer or a recognized gunsmith must do this for you and issue a certificate to this effect. You must then report to the relevant authority that your weapons or ammunition have been rendered unusable.

• You do not have a firearms license
• You cannot prove a need for possession of the weapons or ammunition
• You have installed a state-of-the-art blocking system in your inherited weapon(s) or have had them rendered harmless in some other way

• You have your inherited weapons or ammunition blocked or otherwise rendered harmless.
• You submit proof of the installation of a blocking system or its deactivation to the competent authority
• The responsible authority will accept your report and file it

There may be no modern blocking system on the market for one or more of your inherited weapons. In this case, you have the option of applying for an exemption from the obligation to block or render harmless your inherited weapons.

To make the processing of your report as smooth as possible, you can provide the NWR identification number (NWR-ID) of your inherited weapon. The abbreviation "NWR" stands for National Weapons Register. The NWR identification number (NWR-ID) is a unique identifier that is assigned to a weapon within the framework of this national weapons register.

If you are already a firearm owner, you can also provide your personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for your personal information and the permit NWR ID for your firearms permit (E NWR ID).

A report is a notification by you. No legal remedy is provided

• Show installation of a blocking system on inherited weapons
• Inherited weapons or ammunition without a gun license and no proven need for possession
• Necessary measures: rendering unusable or installing a modern blocking system
• Implementation by recognized arms dealer/gunsmith required, issues certificate
• Reporting to the relevant authority after rendering the vehicle unusable or installing a blocking system
