If you have rendered your weapons unusable or destroyed them, you must report this to the relevant authorities.
If you have rendered your weapon so unusable that it can no longer be repaired with normal tools, you must report this to the relevant authority. A weapon is considered destroyed if its technical functionality has been permanently lost and it no longer physically exists, for example through shredding or melting down. You must also report the destruction of a weapon to the relevant authority.
- Identity card or passport (copy)
- If applicable: permit documents (firearms ownership card, European firearms pass) in which the weapons are registered
- Deactivation certificate (officially certified copy) or proof of destruction of the weapon (presentation of the destroyed weapon or detailed image documentation of the destruction process)
- Power of attorney, proof of employment or other proof if you as the reporting person are not the owner of the weapon (for example, insolvency/compulsory administration, officially appointed carer, heir)
The process of rendering weapons unusable must meet the technical requirements of the EU Deactivation Implementation Regulation. The rendering unusable must be carried out by a gunsmith or a weapon manufacturer. The responsible proof house issues a deactivation certificate confirming that the rendering unusable complies with EU requirements. This certificate must be kept together with the rendered unusable weapons or carried during transport. If you lose the certificate, you must report this immediately to the responsible weapons authority.
An administration fee applies. The amount of the fee depends on the type and scope of your advertisement.
- You report the rendering unusable or destruction of the weapon requiring a permit to the responsible authority and submit the necessary documents.
- The competent authority will remove the weapon in question from your permit documents, such as the firearm ownership card or the European Firearms Pass.
If the weapon has not been rendered unusable in accordance with the requirements of the EU Deactivation Implementation Regulation, the same rules continue to apply as for functional weapons that require a permit.
