Children, adolescents and young adults who receive unemployment benefit II, social benefit or social assistance or whose parents receive child supplement or housing benefit can generally receive benefits from the education package.
It is often not easy for parents who depend on support services to offer their children the same opportunities in their free time or at school as children from families with higher incomes. But needy children and young people also have a right to be able to take part in day trips and lunch together in school and day care, to music, sports and games in clubs and groups. The education and participation services of the so-called education package help here. Up to 2.5 million children and young people can benefit from the education package.

- Up to the age of 18:
- Participation in social and cultural life, for example in a sports club or in the music school, is supported with up to EUR 15.00 per month.
- Up to the age of 25:
- Personal school supplies are funded with EUR 156.00 per year (EUR 104.00 for the first half of the school year, EUR 52.00 for the second half of the school year).
- Costs for additional appropriate learning support will be borne insofar as this is necessary to achieve the learning goals set according to school regulations.
- For one-day excursions from schools, day care centers and child day care, the actual costs are reimbursed.
- For multi-day excursions from day-care centers and child day care as well as for school trips within the framework of school law, the actual costs are covered.
- Subsidies are paid for communal lunch meals for pupils (if they are responsible for the school) and for children in day-care centers and day-care centers. The personal contribution is EUR 1.00 per day.
- The necessary actual expenses for transport to the nearest school of the selected course of study (student monthly tickets) are covered (own contribution, insofar as the ticket can also be used outside of school transport).

- If possible, inquire in advance with the competent authority how to apply for benefits from the education package in the easiest way. The staff will also help you with the application if you wish.
- Fill out the required forms, sign the application and compile the necessary evidence.
- Note: If you receive unemployment benefit II, the benefits for education and participation are applied for together with the application for unemployment benefit II. This also applies to services that serve to support your child's learning.
- Send the complete application documents by post to the responsible office or hand them in personally.
- You will be informed in writing whether and which offers your child can take advantage of.
The implementation of the education package is organized locally in the districts and urban districts and may deviate from the procedures described. In principle, however, the following applies: Anyone who receives unemployment benefit II or social benefit usually turns to the job center for benefits from the education package. The same applies to cases of so-called demand triggering. The training package is also implemented in the job center by the districts and urban districts. You will also receive information there if the education package is managed outside of the job center. The job centers are not responsible for families who receive social assistance, housing benefit, child allowance or benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.
