If a German has married abroad, the marriage can be recorded in the marriage register upon application. Registry Office 1 in Berlin is responsible for notarizing marriages abroad for people who do not live in Germany.
Your marriage concluded abroad will be recognized if, among other things, the regulations applicable in the country of marriage were observed and the marriage was concluded in front of a legally authorized person. Your marriage certificate serves as proof of this. If the certificate was not written in German, a translation is required. There is no obligation for you to apply for the subsequent certification. You always have the option of having a German marriage certificate issued at the registry office that certified your marriage if your foreign certificate is lost. This makes it easier to deal with authorities and other institutions.
