Anyone wishing to work as a dentist in Germany requires a special professional qualification: the license to practice medicine or the professional permit.
Anyone wishing to work as a dentist in Germany requires a special professional qualification: the license to practice medicine or the professional permit. The approbation represents the more comprehensive professional license and entitles you to use the designation as a dentist.
- Application with declaration of pending criminal and investigation proceedings
- Short, complete curriculum vitae with date and signature
- Birth certificate, in the case of married couples also the marriage certificate or an excerpt from the family register
- Proof of identity (e.g. identity card, passport, travel document)
- Medical certificate, which must not be older than three months at the time the license is granted. (Medical certificates from family members and life partners are not recognized.)
- Certificate of the medical examination (must only be attached to the application if the license to practice medicine is not applied for before or shortly after the medical examination.)
Approval must be granted upon application if you:
- have successfully completed your studies in Germany or an equivalent qualification abroad
- are physically and personally suitable
- have sufficient knowledge of the German language
Students who have received their degree in Germany apply online for their license to practice medicine. Students who have received their degree abroad apply in writing for approval. You can find the necessary forms under the links below. As the process continues, you will be notified whether your application is complete or whether you need to submit additional documents. After the approval has been granted, the approval certificate will be sent to you.
Objections to this notification can be raised within one month of notification at the office specified in the letterhead.
