If you receive social assistance or basic security, you will receive support during pregnancy and maternity leave.

As a recipient of social assistance or basic security, you will receive support from the social welfare office during pregnancy and maternity if you do not have health insurance.
You will receive the normal health insurance benefits:

• Medical treatment and care,
• Support from midwives,
• Medicines, dressings and remedies.

If necessary, you will receive care in residential facilities. If you need care at home and your family cannot provide the care, the costs of home care will also be covered in proportion. However, this depends on the level of care required.

• Application for health assistance and supporting documents
• Identity card or passport (or other documents that can clearly identify the person)

Health assistance is available to persons who do not have statutory or adequate private health insurance, for whom provision of services through the health insurance company (Section 264, Paragraph 4 of the Social Code Book V) is not an option, and for whom it is unreasonable to raise the funds for the necessary assistance from income and assets.

After you submit your application, the basic security and social welfare office will check and decide on your eligibility requirements.

A decision on the application will be made immediately. The processing time depends, among other things, on the completeness of the information and the submission of the evidence required to process the application.

As a recipient of social assistance, you will receive these benefits from the social welfare office during pregnancy and maternity if you are in need, provided that the corresponding benefits are not covered by health insurance. These are:

• Treatment by doctors
• Help from midwives,
• Hospital accommodation
• Support services for home care if this cannot be provided by the family
