If your place of residence changes, you must have the new place of residence entered in your passport or change it yourself online.

If your place of residence has changed, for example after you have moved house, you must have the new place of residence entered on your passport.
If you change your place of residence in person at your new place of residence, an address sticker with your new place of residence will be placed on your passport.
If you want to change your place of residence online, the address label will be sent to you by post. You then have to stick the address sticker on your passport over the old place of residence.
Even if you move abroad and no longer have an address in Germany, your passport must be changed. Your place of residence abroad will then appear on the address label.

There are no costs.

If you apply for a change of address in person:

• You report personally to the location responsible for residents’ affairs.
• You present your valid passport and your official registration confirmation.
• Hamburg Service will then stick an official address sticker with your new place of residence over the old place of residence in your passport.
• You can authorize another person in writing to make your address change in your passport at your responsible office.

When applying for a change of address online:

• You access the online service.
• You log in to the online service with your user account.
• You enter all required data online.
• You will receive an address label with your new place of residence by mail.
• You stick the address sticker with your new place of residence over the old place of residence in your passport.

Due to exceptionally high order volumes, delivery times for passports are currently taking significantly longer. We would therefore like to ask you to consider applying for an express passport if necessary.

You must have your new place of residence changed in your passport immediately after your change of address or change it yourself online

You only need to have the address on the passport changed if your place of residence has changed.

• Passport change due to address change
• Only a change of residence must be entered in the passport
• Change must be made immediately
• No change necessary if new address is in the same place of residence
• Changes can be made either in person at the responsible registration authority or by another person with power of attorney or online
• Change of residence is made by an official address sticker, which is affixed above the old place of residence in the passport
• If the address change is made online, the address label will be sent directly to the citizen by post
• Responsible: competent registration authority of the new place of residence
