Before you can work as a pharmacist, you must apply for a license to practice medicine.

If you want to work as a pharmacist in Germany, you need a special professional qualification: license to practice medicine or a professional license. The approbation represents the more comprehensive professional license.

Approval must be granted upon application if you:

• have successfully completed your studies in Germany or an equivalent qualification abroad
• are physically and personally suitable
• have sufficient knowledge of the German language.

Students who have received their degree in Germany apply online for their license to practice medicine. Students who have received their degree abroad apply in writing for approval. As the process continues, you will be notified whether your application is complete or whether you need to submit additional documents. After the approval has been granted, the approval certificate will be sent to you.
