The recycling bin is used for recycling metals, plastics and composites. These substances are far too good for the waste incineration plant. They can be sorted together with packaging and returned to the material cycle.

Packaging and other waste items made of plastic, metal and composites are referred to as recyclable materials. These are collected in Hamburg together via the yellow Hamburg recycling bins and recycling bags.

A large part of household waste consists of packaging materials and other materials made of plastic, metals and composites of these two materials. In Hamburg you do not need to differentiate between packaging and other objects made of plastic and metal. Both are collected together in the recycling bin/yellow recycling bag. This means that you can also dispose of so-called “non-packaging of the same material” free of charge in the recycling bin/yellow recycling bag. These include: plastic or metal bowls, plastic or metal buckets, plastic children's toys, plastic flower pots, metal tools, ...

Please ask the Hamburg city cleaning department which documents you may need to submit.

To order a yellow Hamburg recycling bin, please contact your landlord. Property owners please contact the Hamburg city cleaning department. Among other things, your customer number is required for this.

When collecting the recycling bin, please note the waste disposal calendar of the Hamburg city cleaning department and the opening hours of the recycling centers (see the "Links" section).

If you provide the recycling bin for collection yourself, please leave it at the curb by 6 a.m. The yellow bags are collected every two weeks.
