Do you have any financial or personal changes while receiving BAföG? You must inform your responsible BAföG office of these changes. This may lead to an increase or decrease in your monthly subsidy contribution.

If you receive training grants (BAföG), you must notify us of any changes.
Some changes will increase or decrease your entitlement.
This includes:

• Change due to admission to health and nursing care insurance
• change in your income
• Moving to a new apartment
• birth of your child
• Marriage/Divorce
• Interruption or termination of training and change of training facility/school

• Changes in your parents' income
• Change in the income of your spouse or partner

If your entitlement increases, you will be paid more money each month.
If you make a reduction, you will receive less money. You may have to pay back the excess BAföG you received.

There have been changes in your personal circumstances that lead to a change in your BAföG entitlement

There are no costs.

If something changes in your personal circumstances, you must inform the Office for Educational Support immediately.
You can do this in writing or online. You must also submit the relevant supporting documents with your change request.
If your entitlement has increased, you will receive a notice of change and the increased requirement will be paid to you. The amount will also be refunded to you retrospectively if you have notified all changes in good time.
If your entitlement decreases, you will receive less BAföG from the following month. In addition, it will be checked whether you have received too much BAföG in the past, which you then have to reimburse.

The processing time depends on the individual living situation and circumstances of the applicant and your participation in the provision of the service.

You must announce the change immediately.

You must notify the Office for Educational Support of any changes to your name and address. If your studies and BAföG receipt have already ended, please also inform the Federal Office of Administration of your name and change of address.

For students:
The offices for training support in the districts or urban districts are responsible for student support under the BAföG in Germany. For trainees at evening schools, colleges, higher technical schools and academies, the Office for Training Assistance is responsible for the district in which the training center is located. For all other students, the responsibility lies with the Office for Educational Support of the city/district administration at the place of residence of the parents.

For students:
The student unions of the universities at which you have been or will be enrolled are responsible for student support in Germany in accordance with BAföG.

For training abroad:
Depending on the destination country, different central international offices in Germany are responsible for foreign funding under the BAföG, both for students and school pupils.

In addition to the text of the law, the website also contains the application forms, information on electronic application submission, the listings of training centers in the federal states for eligible training, a nationwide listing of the offices for training support and example BAföG calculations.

Changes in personal and financial circumstances can lead to a change in the BAföG entitlement. The person entitled to BAföG must inform the Office for Educational Support immediately.
