Under certain conditions, mothers and fathers are entitled to a mother/father-child measure from their health insurance company.
A mother/father-child measure is inpatient medical treatment for mothers and fathers who have health problems or are at risk due to their family situation. The measure can also be used by mothers or fathers alone.
The measure is carried out in a facility of the mothers' convalescence facility or a similar facility. You will also live there during the treatment, which is tailored to the needs of mothers and fathers based on their individual stress situation. The facility is selected by your health insurance company, which must take your wishes into account as far as possible.
The mother/father-child measures usually last three weeks, for children under the age of 14 four to six weeks. They can be repeated after four years at the earliest. If there is a justified medical necessity, an extension or a new service can be requested.

Insured persons who have reached the age of eighteen and take advantage of a mother/father-child measure pay EUR 10.00 per calendar day to the facility that forwards the payments to the health insurance company. The health insurance company has to decide quickly on an application for benefits
- no later than three weeks after receipt of the application or
- if an expert opinion, in particular from the medical service, is obtained, within five weeks of receipt of the application.
Mother/father-child measures can be repeated after four years at the earliest, unless this is medically necessary.
If the health insurance company refuses the service, you can appeal against it. If the objection is not remedied, you can appeal to the social court.
- Insured persons are entitled to rehabilitation services in a maternal convalescent facility or equivalent facility when they are necessary to diagnose, cure, prevent aggravation of, or alleviate the symptoms of an illness.
- The benefit can be provided in the form of a mother or father cure, a mother-child measure or in suitable facilities as a father-child measure.
- The health insurance company determines the type, duration, scope, start and implementation of the measures and the rehabilitation facility according to the medical requirements of the individual case, taking into account the wish and choice of the insured person. When making its decision, it takes into account the special needs of caring relatives.
- The services should be provided for a maximum of three weeks, for children under 14 years of age for four to six weeks; an extension is possible for urgent medical reasons.
- For insured persons who have reached the age of 18, a new benefit is possible at the earliest four years after it was carried out, unless for urgent medical reasons.
